BW ESS has acquired the 250MW/1,000MWh Yanco Battery Energy Storage System (Yanco BESS) in New South Wales from Australian renewable energy developer ACEnergy. The Riverina project will connect to the Yanco 132kV substation and provide firming capacity, energy arbitrage, and system security services to the National Electricity Market. Construction will begin later this year, with commercial operations targeted for 2028, capable of supplying around 430,000 homes for four hours. CATL has been appointed as the system integrator, whilst ACLE Services will handle balance of plant works and provide long-term operations and maintenance services. ACEnergy developed Yanco BESS to ready-to-build status, securing land, planning approval, grid connection, and project rights and contracts.
