Actis launched a new Indian renewables platform, Leo Energies, and signed agreements to acquire approximately 650 megawatts peak (MWp) of operational solar capacity plus 160 MWp of generation and 50 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The transaction includes 110 MWp of generation and 50 MWh of BESS acquired specifically from TrueRE Oriana Power, and the 650 MWp of projects are located across Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The acquired solar capacity is operational at acquisition and is backed by long-term power-purchase agreements (PPAs) with central offtakers, state discoms and commercial & industrial customers. Leo Energies targets a portfolio of more than 3 gigawatts combining onshore wind, solar and battery storage, and has further acquisitions and greenfield PPA auctions in its near-term pipeline. Actis has previously deployed about $1.5 billion of equity in India and built or operated nearly 10 GW of generation capacity, positioning Leo Energies as a continuation of its buy-and-build approach in the Indian renewables market.
