AGL Energy to develop a large solar and battery microgrid for Koompartu Farms
Type: Development · Technology: Solar · Country: Australia · Announced: 2026-07-04
AGL Energy announced it will develop a renewable energy microgrid for RRG Capital Management at Koompartu Farms in South Australia. The microgrid will incorporate a 9.2 MW solar plant and a 10.2 MWh battery system, supplemented by backup generators, to supply the farm’s 6.7 MW electricity demand. The project aims to cut diesel fuel use by 88% and will be built on the almond orchard’s site, delivering clean power to the region. The development expands AGL Energy’s portfolio of large‑scale solar‑storage solutions and supports RRG Capital Management’s sustainability goals for its agricultural assets. The agreement was disclosed on 4 July 2026, marking one of Australia’s biggest solar‑battery microgrids for a single farm.
