Agreena secures seven-year carbon credit agreement with commodity trading house for regenerative agriculture project in Kazakhstan
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Agriculture · Country: Kazakhstan · Announced: 2026-09-09
Agreena, the Copenhagen-based agriculture-focused carbon platform, announced a seven-year agreement with one of the world's largest commodity trading houses for the purchase of 4.45 million tonnes of carbon credits. The deal covers a regenerative agriculture project in northern Kazakhstan's grain belt targeting 1.6 million hectares under regenerative management by 2028. The project aims to transition farmers from conventional tillage to regenerative practices, reducing diesel use by 40-60 liters per hectare and preserving soil moisture in regions receiving 300-450mm of annual rainfall. Revenue from the agreement will support farmers in rebuilding soil health and ensuring long-term farmland resilience. The agreement represents the largest publicly communicated agricultural carbon deal to date and one of the longest-dated commitments in a soil carbon project. The commodity trading house's commitment provides the economic safety net necessary for farmers to transition to regenerative methods, with the platform's dMRV technology ensuring measurable carbon removal.
