Alotta Energy signs 15-year deal with Trusal for floating solar plants
Type: Ppa · Technology: Solar · Country: Chile · Announced: 2026-08-07
Alotta Energy signed a fifteen-year power purchase agreement with Trusal, part of Chilean producer Salmones Austral, for one floating solar plant with an option for five more. If all six plants are built, the company estimates they will cut roughly 10 million liters of diesel and avoid nearly 27,000 metric tons of CO2 over the life of the contract. The deal follows the successful deployment of the Huar Norte floating solar project, which demonstrated material operational and environmental benefits for remote aquaculture sites. Trusal’s participation underscores the salmon industry’s push to decarbonize its most remote operations, where grid connectivity is limited. The agreement includes provisions for scaling the project to up to six plants, contingent on performance and site-specific conditions. This PPA is part of a broader trend in Chile’s aquaculture sector toward integrating renewable energy solutions to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
