Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has partnered with B2U Storage Solutions to repurpose used electric vehicle batteries from its fleet for grid storage. The batteries will be used to create stationary battery energy storage systems, providing a safe and cost-effective solution for grid-scale energy storage projects. The first deployment under the partnership will be focused on Texas and California. This partnership aims to maximize battery utilization and provide affordable alternatives to energy storage systems built with newly manufactured battery materials. By repurposing these batteries, Waymo and B2U Storage Solutions can support the growth of clean energy on the electricity grid while expanding the circular economy.
