Type: Acquisition · Technology: Storage · Country: Germany · Announced: 2026-08-26
Swiss energy company Alpiq acquired a 103.5 MW / 238 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bollingstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, from ECO STOR. The BESS, which became operational in 2025, is one of Germany's largest operational battery storage systems. This acquisition marks Alpiq's first operational BESS in Germany and its largest to date, complementing existing systems in Cheviré, France (100 MW), and Valkeakoski, Finland (30 MW). The transaction provides Alpiq with immediate access to the German flexibility market, aligning with its strategy to strengthen its position in the European storage market. The deal extends Alpiq's established relationship with ECO STOR, a German-Norwegian developer specializing in battery storage systems.
