AM Green and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority partner to develop green ammonia bunkering hub at Tuticorin Port with 200,000 tpa capacity by 2029-30

Type: Partnership · Technology: Green Ammonia · Country: India · Value: INR 240M · Announced: 2026-06-15

AM Green, an Indian green hydrogen and ammonia developer promoted by the founders of Greenko Group, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) to jointly develop a green ammonia production and bunkering hub at Tuticorin Port in Tamil Nadu. The partnership targets the development of up to 200,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of green ammonia bunkering capacity by the fiscal year 2029-30, backed by an estimated investment of INR 2,000 crore (approximately $240 million). The project includes plans to expand capacity to 500,000 tpa by 2035, with total investment rising to INR 5,000 crore (approximately $600 million), subject to market demand and adoption rates of low-carbon marine fuels. AM Green and VOCPA will also explore pilot bunkering operations and jointly develop the infrastructure required to facilitate green ammonia bunkering, aligning with international best practices. The agreement supports AM Green’s commitment to develop a 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) green ammonia production facility near the port, with an investment of INR 15,000 crore (approximately $1.8 billion), for which VOCPA will provide active support.
