Amazon signs nine Power Purchase Agreements in Australia for 430MW of renewable energy capacity
Type: Ppa · Technology: Hybrid · Country: Australia · Capacity: 430 MW · Announced: 2026-04-16
Amazon signed nine Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) across Australia for approximately 430MW of renewable energy capacity, including its first contracted battery energy storage system (BESS) outside the US market. The portfolio includes one 201.8MW onshore wind farm (Golden Plains 2 in Victoria by TagEnergy), three utility-scale solar and battery hybrids (94.5MW/70MW Muswellbrook project by OX2, 72MW/72MW project by X-Elio, and 48MW/48MW Laceby project by Anza), and four distributed solar-battery projects (3.8MW/3.8MW in Stanbridge by Anza, and three projects in Victoria by Indigo, Barnawartha, and Mooroopna with capacities of 3.6MW, 3.6MW, and 3.4MW respectively). The final PPA covers 32MW of energy storage at the 56MW Mokoan Solar Farm in Hume, Victoria, which was already tied to a prior Amazon PPA in June 2023. Eight of the PPAs incorporate BESS systems, marking Amazon's first contracted capacity from such projects outside the US. Following these deals, Amazon has now contracted approximately 990MW of renewable capacity in Australia, supporting its AU$20 billion (US$13 billion) investment plan to expand data center infrastructure in the country by 2029.
