ANDRITZ supplies 17-MW variable-speed pump turbine for EDF's Vouglans/Saut-Mortier pumped storage project in France
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Hydro · Country: France · Capacity: 85 MW · Announced: 2026-07-20
ANDRITZ signed a supply agreement with Électricité de France (EDF) to deliver a 17‑MW variable‑speed pump turbine and associated turbine controller for the Vouglans/Saut‑Mortier pumped‑storage project in the French Jura Mountains. The turbine will raise the plant’s total capacity by roughly 80‑85 MW and expand its storage from 50 GWh to 250 GWh, linking the Coiselet, Saut‑Mortier and Vouglans reservoirs into a three‑reservoir system. The contract, valued in the lower double‑digit‑million‑euro range, includes design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning and is scheduled for execution between 2026 and 2031. Ingeteam will supply the motor‑generator and full‑range converter as a consortium partner, providing the variable‑speed drive capability required for rapid response to grid demands. The upgrade aims to improve French grid stability and facilitate greater integration of renewable electricity, supporting EDF’s broader decarbonisation strategy.
