Anza Power signs Amazon Australia's first standalone battery storage tolling agreement for the Bairnsdale Battery Energy Storage System in Australia
Type: Ppa · Technology: Storage · Country: Australia · Capacity: 50 MW · Announced: 2026-09-03
Anza Power, an independent power producer launched by I Squared Capital in January 2026, signed a tolling agreement with Amazon Australia for the Bairnsdale Battery Energy Storage System in East Gippsland, Victoria. The 50 MW / 200 MWh standalone battery storage project will connect directly to Australia’s electricity grid as an independent asset, marking Amazon’s first standalone battery storage tolling agreement in the Asia Pacific region and a first-of-its-kind arrangement for a non-energy business in Australia. Designed to store electricity and dispatch power during peak demand periods, the system will enhance regional grid reliability, improve energy flexibility, and support greater integration of renewable generation into the National Electricity Market. This agreement builds on Anza Power’s existing relationship with Amazon, which includes five prior solar-plus-battery power-purchase agreements announced in April 2026, and follows the platform’s first New Zealand offtake agreement with Fonterra. Anza Power, backed by a $300 million commitment from I Squared Capital, now has seven clean-energy offtake agreements since its launch.
