ATN S.A. secures environmental approval for 100 MW solar project with transmission line and BESS in Moquegua, Peru
Type: Development · Technology: Solar · Country: Peru · Capacity: 100 MW · Announced: 2026-09-18
ATN S.A. received environmental approval from Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) for the 100 MW Central Solar Fotovoltaica Montalvo project, which includes a 220 kV transmission line and battery energy storage system. The project, located in the districts of Moquegua and San Antonio in the Mariscal Nieto province, will feature approximately 183,360 bifacial monocristalino modules and connect to the national grid via a new 33/220 kV substation. Construction is scheduled over 17 months with a 30-year operational lifespan, and the Minem estimates construction costs at $158.54 million excluding taxes. The approval follows a period of administrative scrutiny, including opposition from the Irrigation Association Pampas de Guaneros regarding land use and agricultural impacts, which Minem ultimately dismissed after ATN addressed observed observations.
