Aukera Energy and Weerts Group reach financial close on Project Volt 170 MW / 340 MWh battery energy storage system in Belgium
Type: Financing · Technology: Storage · Country: Belgium · Capacity: 170 MW · Value: EUR 97.5M · Announced: 2026-06-03
Aukera Energy and Weerts Group reached financial close on Project Volt, a 170 MW / 340 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in La Louvière, Belgium, with total debt facilities of €97.5 million. The project secured a 15-year contract in Elia’s Y-4 Capacity Remuneration Mechanism auction in November 2025 and is expected to reach commercial operation by mid-2027. The battery storage system is configured for an initial two-hour duration, with flexibility to support longer-duration operation as market and grid conditions evolve. Senior debt is provided by ABN AMRO and Triodos Bank as co-lead arrangers and bookrunners, while junior debt is supplied by Belgian institutional investors including I4B, Wallonie Entreprendre, and SOCOFE. The project will connect to Elia’s high-voltage transmission network at the La Croyère substation, with the 150kV transformer supplied by Belgian manufacturer Pauwels. Aukera Energy, headquartered in Brussels, currently has over 810 MW of renewable energy and battery storage infrastructure in construction or operation across four European countries.
