AusNet signed a $210 million supply agreement with Hyosung Heavy Industries to provide up to 45 ultra‑high‑voltage power transformers and related equipment. The transformers will be used to reinforce Victoria’s transmission network as the state pursues its 65 % renewable generation target by 2030 and 95 % by 2035. The five‑year contract also covers reactors and other critical power gear, ensuring grid reliability for upcoming solar, wind and battery projects across the state. AusNet’s CEO David Smales said the deal reduces supply‑chain risk and locks in scarce equipment ahead of rising electricity demand. Hyosung’s chairman Cho Hyun‑joon highlighted Australia as a strategic market and indicated future cooperation on high‑voltage direct‑current systems.
