The Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP) secured USD 66.5 million in financing from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to accelerate research into high-efficiency solar cells and next-generation tandem solar technologies. The funding supports over 250 researchers across Australia, including teams at the University of New South Wales, Australian National University, CSIRO, University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of Queensland, and University of Sydney. ACAP Executive Director Professor Renate Egan highlighted the investment as critical for maintaining Australia's global leadership in solar innovation and achieving ultra-low-cost solar deployment. ARENA CEO Darren Miller emphasized the need to push cell efficiency limits to deliver high-performance technologies at scale. The financing will fund research into durability, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements in solar modules, positioning Australia to meet future energy demands with advanced photovoltaic solutions.
