Australian Energy Operations to operate Ararat Synchronous Condenser, constructed by Beon Energy Solutions and built by Andritz Hydro
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Transmission · Country: Australia · Capacity: 600 MW · Announced: 2026-07-03
The 250 MVA Ararat Synchronous Condenser (SynCon) has commenced operations in Victoria, enabling an additional 600 MW of renewable energy generation to connect to the grid. Melbourne-headquartered Australian Energy Operations will operate the project, while Victorian renewable company Beon Energy Solutions completed the site's construction. The SynCon itself was built by Austrian manufacturer Andritz Hydro, supporting system stability for the grid. Located 190 kilometers northwest of Melbourne at Elmhurst, this project is one of 12 initiatives under the state government's $480 million (USD 332 million) investment to strengthen Victoria's grid. These 12 projects are projected to unlock 2.3 GW of clean energy, sufficient to power 16% of Victoria's annual electricity needs.
