Type: Investment · Technology: Storage · Country: Australia · Capacity: 400 MW · Announced: 2026-06-24

The Australian government awarded a revenue underwriting agreement to a consortium of Gryphon Energy, Red Hill Renewable Energy and Ampyr Energy Australia for the 400 MW (1,602 MWh) Rutherglen battery energy storage project in Queensland’s Gladstone region. The project will store renewable generation and provide four‑hour dispatchable capacity to the National Electricity Market. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026 with commissioning slated for 2029, creating jobs in regional Queensland. The award supports the government’s CIS program to replace retiring coal plants and to meet the 82 % renewable electricity target by 2030. The deal unlocks private investment and will contribute to the $6 billion pipeline of clean‑energy projects.
