Axens acquires Air Liquide's Lurgi Methanol-to-Olefins (MTO) portfolio to expand SAF production capabilities

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Biomass · Country: France · Announced: 2026-07-03

Axens has agreed to acquire Air Liquide's Lurgi Methanol-to-Olefins (MTO) portfolio, including the Lurgi Methanol-to-Propylene (MTP) technology, for an undisclosed sum. The portfolio enables the conversion of methanol into olefins, which can be further processed into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This acquisition expands Axens' SAF production pathways, adding a Methanol-to-Jet (MTJ) pathway to complement its existing Jetanol suite based on ethanol. The MTP technology is industrially proven with a strong track record of reliable operation at commercial scale. Axens' expanded portfolio now supports a broader range of feedstocks, including biomass-based SAF and e-SAF, positioning it as a comprehensive solution provider in the market. The transaction was announced on July 3, 2026, with no financial terms disclosed.
