Axpo and Zelestra have signed a ten-year tolling agreement for a 207 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in northern Italy. Construction is slated to begin in 2027 with commercial operation expected in 2028, located in the industrialised Friuli‑Venezia Giulia region. The agreement makes Zelestra the second largest battery storage owner in Italy with a total of 970 MW, while Axpo will deliver optimization services for the project. This partnership highlights the rapid growth of storage assets in Italy and positions both companies to capture increasing demand for grid flexibility.
