Barings Real Estate Australia led a consortium of property investors and major Australian superannuation funds to acquire Melbourne’s Moorabbin Airport for A$1.5 billion (USD 1.1 billion). Goodman Group, the current owner, will reinvest alongside institutional investors including Aware Super and Rest Super. The 294-hectare strategic landholding includes diversified uses such as aviation, industrial operations, and the Kingston Central Plaza retail precinct. Moorabbin Airport, Australia’s second busiest, operates under a 71-year leasehold granted by the Commonwealth Government, hosting flight training, charter, and maintenance services. Barings cited its strong track record with complex airport and industrial assets, referencing prior successes at Bankstown and Camden Airports in Sydney. The transaction expands Barings’ Australian portfolio, which now exceeds 120 investments managed by an experienced leadership team.
