BayWa r.e. signs eight-year service contract with Scale Fund for Alfeld battery energy storage system in Germany

BayWa r.e. secured an eight-year service contract with Danish investment fund Scale Fund to operate and manage the Alfeld battery energy storage system (BESS) in Lower Saxony, Germany. The 137 MW / 282 MWh project, currently under construction, is scheduled to commence commercial operations in Q3 2026. BayWa r.e. will leverage its technological expertise and digital asset management capabilities, supported by software specialist TWAICE, to ensure long-term operational efficiency. Scale Fund highlighted the project's role in stabilizing the power grid and integrating renewable energy sources like wind and solar into the national grid. The Alfeld BESS is positioned as critical infrastructure contributing to Germany's sustainable energy transition, with BayWa r.e.'s proven track record cited as a key factor in the selection process.
