BKW acquires Volterres to expand renewable energy aggregation and PPA services in France
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Solar, Onshore Wind, Hydro, Storage · Country: France · Announced: 2026-06-02
Swiss energy group BKW completed the acquisition of 100% of Volterres, a French renewable energy aggregator and electricity supplier, to strengthen its position in France’s energy transition market. Volterres, founded in 2019 and previously a subsidiary of Sun’R (itself a subsidiary of Eiffage), specializes in aggregating and monetizing renewable electricity production through mechanisms such as feed-in tariffs, utility PPAs, corporate PPAs, and hybrid contracts. The acquisition enables BKW to integrate Volterres’ digital and commercial expertise with its own energy management capabilities, offering end-to-end renewable energy solutions to French corporate and industrial clients. BKW had already established a presence in France through its 2020 acquisition of Hydronext, which became BKW Energie France, focusing on hydroelectric, wind, and solar projects. Volterres sources renewable energy from over 100 installations, including solar, wind, and hydropower facilities, and supplies more than 2 TWh of electricity annually to its customers. The deal aligns with BKW’s strategy to cover the entire renewable energy value chain in France, from production to commercialization of flexibility services and direct supply to businesses.
