Bolivia to build 40 MW solar plant in La Paz department

The Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE Corporación) is set to construct the Contorno Bajo I solar plant, located in the municipality of Viacha, province of Ingavi, in the La Paz department of Bolivia. The project will have a capacity of over 40 MW and will be financed by a €34 million ($38.79 million) external loan from the German bank KfW. The plant is expected to be completed within 14 months and will have a lifespan of 25 years. The project will help reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions, while also meeting the growing demand for electricity in the region. The Contorno Bajo I solar plant will be the first photovoltaic plant in the La Paz department. The loan for the project was approved by the President of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, in June 2026.
