BW ESS acquires two battery energy storage projects totaling 126 MW/675 MWh in Spain from Navacant

BW ESS, a developer and operator of large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), acquired two standalone battery storage projects from Spanish renewables and storage developer Navacant. The projects, located in the Comunidad Valenciana, includes 99 MW and 27 MW of capacity respectively, totaling 675 MWh of storage. BW ESS, which entered the Spanish market in 2025, plans to expand its platform through greenfield development and acquisitions of advanced-stage projects. The acquired projects have been under development for approximately 18 months and are expected to reach Ready-to-Build status in 2027, with commercial operation slated for 2028. The transaction follows BW ESS's full acquisition of Penso Power in 2024, a UK-based grid-scale storage developer whose 2020 Minety project was Europe's first 100 MW BESS.
