Type: Investment · Technology: Storage · Country: Brazil · Announced: 2026-06-22

BYD, headquartered in Shenzhen, announced plans to invest up to R$ 500 million (US$ 98 million) in a new production line for battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Brazil. The investment will be implemented gradually and financed entirely by BYD, with a decision expected within 90 days on whether to expand its existing battery factory in Manaus or construct a new facility elsewhere in the country. The initial phase of the project is projected to create between 300 and 400 direct jobs, focusing on the assembly of BESS modules, packs, and systems using BYD's lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology. The company already operates an LFP battery factory in the Manaus Industrial Pole, Amazonas state, which could facilitate supply chain integration and tax incentives if the expansion route is chosen.
