Cade rejects appeal and approves acquisition of Copasa stake by Equatorial

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Water Waste · Country: Brazil · Announced: 2026-08-05

Gerais Saneamento, a unit of Grupo Equatorial, acquired a 30% stake in Companhia de Saneamento de Minas Gerais (Copasa) on 5 August 2026. The transaction was approved by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) after rejecting the objections raised by Sindágua-MG. Copasa provides water and wastewater services across the state of Minas Gerais, serving millions of customers. The acquisition expands Grupo Equatorial’s presence in Brazil’s water infrastructure sector, complementing its existing operations in the Piauí region. The deal, valued at an undisclosed amount, positions the group to pursue further investments in sanitation and potential synergies with its other utility assets.
