Revera Energy, a portfolio company of Carlyle, reached final investment decision (FID) on the 400 MW / 800 MWh Hunterston battery energy storage project in North Ayrshire, Scotland. Construction is scheduled to begin in Q3 2026, marking a key milestone in Revera’s Scottish battery storage portfolio expansion. The project is part of a broader £500 million investment program that includes the 200 MW / 400 MWh Windyhill project in Glasgow and the 400 MW / 800 MWh Kincardine project in Fife, collectively forming a 1 GW / 2 GWh battery storage portfolio. Revera’s CEO Daniel Kim highlighted the projects’ role in strengthening Scotland’s electricity network and supporting long-term infrastructure development. Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney emphasized the portfolio’s significance as one of the UK’s largest battery storage initiatives, projecting job creation and enhanced energy reliability for Scottish homes and businesses.
