CBAK Energy signed an investment agreement with the Nanjing Gaochun Economic Development Zone on 2026-09-29 to advance a project that would add 12 GWh of annual cell production capacity in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The project covers research, development and manufacture of large cylindrical sodium-ion cells and integrated battery systems with production lines designed to make either sodium-ion or lithium-ion large cylindrical cells. CBAK plans to advance the project in the second half of 2027, subject to securing financing, and will develop module and battery pack integration in phased stages based on financing and customer demand. The agreement advances CBAK’s previously outlined 12 GWh sodium-ion capacity plan tied to internal test results for its 32140 NH-7Ah sodium-ion cell using an NFPP cathode.
