Centrica Energy signs tolling agreement with Zelestra for German battery storage project

Centrica Energy and Zelestra have signed a physical tolling agreement for the 99 MW / 297 MWh Hilgermissen battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Lower Saxony, Germany. The project is expected to begin construction in 2027 and achieve commercial operations in the second half of 2028. Zelestra will develop, construct, own, and operate the standalone three-hour battery storage project. Centrica Energy will optimize the battery through its multi-market trading platform, enabling participation in Germany's day-ahead, intraday, and ancillary services markets. This agreement is a material milestone for Centrica Energy in Germany, demonstrating the demand for its optimization capabilities and strengthening its position in the European flexibility market. The deal also supports Zelestra's growth pipeline, with over 2 GW of solar, wind, and storage projects in development across Germany.
