Centrus Energy Corp signs enrichment supply agreement with X-Energy for nuclear fuel
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Nuclear · Country: United States · Announced: 2026-08-17
Centrus Energy Corp. signed a supply agreement with X-Energy to provide both low‑enriched uranium (LEU) and high‑assay low‑enriched uranium (HALEU) for X-Energy’s planned Xe-100 small modular reactors and its TRISO-X fuel program. All enrichment work will be performed at Centrus’s American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, one of the few U.S. facilities capable of commercial‑scale HALEU production. The contract includes pre‑payments from X-Energy that are earmarked to fund expansion of the Piketon enrichment capacity. By securing a domestic source of HALEU, X-Energy aims to mitigate supply‑chain risks and satisfy U.S. nuclear regulator requirements for its advanced reactor designs. The expanded capacity is expected to support multiple Xe-100 deployments and benefit other advanced reactor developers seeking HALEU. No financial terms were disclosed, and the agreement underscores the strategic push to build a U.S. advanced nuclear fuel supply chain.
