China Communications Construction Company builds and commissions 61.4 MW solar plant Enesolar 1 in Nicaragua for Enacal under Chinese-backed financing
Type: Development · Technology: Solar · Country: Nicaragua · Value: $90M · Announced: 2026-04-26
China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) completed construction and commissioned the 61.425 MWp Enesolar 1 solar plant in San Isidro, Matagalpa, Nicaragua, on April 26, 2026, under a development agreement with Nicaragua's national water utility Enacal. The project, financed with approximately $90 million in Chinese cooperation funds, integrates 100,100 solar panels, 187 inverters, a 75 MVA transformer, and a 12 MW battery storage system, occupying 160 manzanas (approximately 115 hectares). Enesolar 1 is designed to supply 139,823 MWh annually, covering about 35% of Enacal's electricity consumption for water pumping and treatment systems serving over 800,000 families. Since grid connection, the plant has delivered more than 20 GWh of clean energy to Nicaragua's national grid, reducing Enacal's operational costs tied to electricity-intensive pumping stations. The project generated over 1,000 local jobs during construction and was executed as part of a broader Chinese-backed renewable energy initiative in Nicaragua.
