China delivers 5,000 solar PV systems with battery storage to Cuba for rural electrification and essential services

The Government of China delivered a second donation of 5,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to Cuba, totaling 18 MW of distributed solar capacity and 71.5 MWh of battery storage. Each system includes 3.6 kW of solar capacity and 14.3 kWh of storage, doubling the storage capacity of the previous 2025 donation. The systems are designed to electrify isolated rural homes and support essential services such as health centers, emergency medical services, childcare facilities, orphanages, and bank branches across all 169 municipalities in Cuba. The donation follows an earlier 2025 delivery of 5,000 smaller 2 kW systems, primarily for rural homes and hurricane-affected areas in eastern Cuba. The Unión Eléctrica de Cuba began installing the first batch of 5,000 systems in 2026, assigning 2,671 to critical municipal centers and 2,329 to isolated homes, including those previously without electricity.
