A joint venture between China Energy Engineering Corporation and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute was awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for Anthem’s 620 MW Notsi Solar PV project in South Africa’s Free State. The project will cover over 1,000 hectares and install more than 860,000 solar panels, with an expected annual generation of 1.5 TWh. Construction is underway following financial close and long-term wheeling agreements with Discovery Limited and NOA. Anthem will retain full asset management responsibilities during construction and take over O&M duties from year three of operations. This EPC award represents one of the largest solar construction contracts in South African history. The project is expected to play a key role in expanding private-sector renewable energy access in the country.
