CollPlant Biotechnologies acquires laser-based computing startup LightSolver

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Data Center · Country: Israel · Announced: 2026-09-02

CollPlant Biotechnologies acquired Israel-based LightSolver, a laser-based computing startup, for an undisclosed sum using an equity-centric structure with upfront shares, pre-funded warrants, and milestone-based warrants tied to LightSolver's technological and commercial objectives. LightSolver developed the world's first pure laser-based processing unit (LPU), the LPU100 system, which uses all-optical coupled lasers requiring no electronics and operates at room temperature with low power needs. The LPU100 can handle problems with up to one million variables and aims to outperform quantum and supercomputers by transitioning computing from electrons to light for speed and energy efficiency. CollPlant's deputy CEO and CFO, Eran Rotem, stated the acquisition marks CollPlant's entry into a high-growth market while supporting LightSolver's commercialization. Founded in 2020 by Ruti Ben Shlomi and Chene Tradonsky, LightSolver's technology is positioned as a new computing layer alongside CPUs and GPUs.
