Colombia awards 1,546.9 MW of solar capacity in firm energy obligation auction for 2029-2030
Type: Ppa · Technology: Solar · Country: Colombia · Capacity: 1546.9 MW · Announced: 2026-05-25
Colombia's energy regulator CREG awarded 1,546.9 MW of solar capacity through its Obligaciones de Energía Firme (OEF) auction for the 2029-2030 period, representing 38% of the total 4,069.7 MW awarded. The auction, administered by XM, allocated firm energy obligations to 29 solar projects, including new developments like Yariguíes 200 MW (ERCO Generación) and Atlántico Photovoltaic 199.5 MW (Enel Colombia). Existing solar plants such as Guayepo and Fundación also secured OEF allocations, totaling 11,064,934 kWh/day of firm energy. The auction used a two-tier pricing system with a closing price of $22/MWh for plants with lower variable costs and $16.4/MWh for higher-cost plants. XM will now require winning bidders to submit fuel contracts or performance guarantees by August 6, 2026, with OEF certificates to be issued by September 14, 2026.
