Contecon Manzanillo acquires electric tractors from Sany for port operations decarbonization

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Transport · Country: Mexico · Announced: 2026-05-29

Contecon Manzanillo, a subsidiary of ICTSI, incorporated the first batch of electric tractors manufactured by Sany to modernize operations at its Terminal Especializada de Contenedores II (TEC II) in Manzanillo, Colima. The 16-hour autonomy electric tractors replace diesel-powered units, eliminating direct emissions and reducing noise while improving operational efficiency in heavy cargo handling. The equipment arrived via the CMA CGM Andromeda vessel and integrates with on-site electric charging infrastructure that enables 30-minute recharge cycles. Contecon Manzanillo plans to deploy 28 electric tractors by 2027 as part of its phase 4 expansion strategy, complementing prior hybrid RTG crane installations during phase 3B. The initiative aligns with ICTSI's global decarbonization goals across its 34 terminals in 20 countries.
