ContourGlobal acquires solar and battery storage portfolio from Grenergy in Chile for $962 million
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Hybrid · Country: Chile · Capacity: 231 MWp · Value: $962M · Announced: 2026-05-28
ContourGlobal, a global power generation company controlled by KKR, completed the acquisition of a 231 MWp solar and 1.3 GWh battery storage portfolio in Chile from Grenergy for $962 million in late 2024. The portfolio includes the Víctor Jara hybrid plant in Tarapacá region, featuring a 231 MWp solar PV plant paired with a 200 MW / 1.3 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS), and the Quillagua 1 & 2 solar projects in Antofagasta with 221 MWp of solar capacity and 1.2 GWh of storage. The Víctor Jara BESS enables up to 6.5 hours of continuous clean energy delivery after sunset, making it the longest-duration utility-scale storage system operational in Latin America. The acquisition forms part of ContourGlobal's broader expansion in Chile, where it now operates 850 MW of combined solar and storage capacity, including projects acquired from Grenergy and its own developments. The portfolio represents 23% of the total Oasis de Atacama project, which spans seven phases with nearly 2 GW of solar capacity and 11 GWh of storage.
