ContourGlobal brings Black Hollow Sun solar complex into commercial operation under PPA with Platte River Power Authority

Type: Ppa · Technology: Solar · Country: United States · Announced: 2026-09-01

ContourGlobal brought the 324 MWp (257 MWac) Black Hollow Sun solar complex in Severance, Weld County, Colorado into full commercial operation after completing its second 139 MWp (107 MWac) phase which began operations in September 2026. The project supplies Platte River Power Authority under a long-term power purchase agreement and is expected to generate approximately 608 GWh annually for Platte River’s owner communities of Fort Collins, Estes Park, Longmont, and Loveland. ContourGlobal acquired the project in December 2024, owns and operates both phases, and previously placed the 185 MWp (150 MWac) first phase into commercial operation in September 2025; construction of phase two began in April 2025. Hanwha Qcells acted as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor and supplied modules that included panels assembled at its U.S. manufacturing facilities for the approximately 1,700-acre site with more than 500,000 single-axis tracking panels. Completion supported more than 700 direct construction jobs at peak with over 70% U.S.-sourced workforce, and increases ContourGlobal’s U.S. generation portfolio to roughly 2.7 GW of operational or under-construction capacity including about 0.8 GW of solar and 0.3 GW of battery storage under construction.
