ContourGlobal secures 3 GWh battery supply agreement with CATL for UK, Greece, and Chile projects
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Storage · Country: United Kingdom, Greece, Chile · Capacity: 3 GWh · Announced: 2026-08-10
ContourGlobal signed a framework supply agreement with CATL for 3 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) to support projects in the UK, Greece, and Chile. The deal covers 526 battery containers, each with 5.64 MWh of storage capacity, configured for four hours of continuous discharge. CATL will supply a containerized, liquid-cooled BESS solution using large-format lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, marking the first deployment of this technology in ContourGlobal’s portfolio. The agreement includes cell-degradation management, liquid cooling, integrated fire detection and suppression, and end-of-life battery recycling commitments from CATL. The three projects—500 MW / 2,000 MWh Wallace standalone BESS in Scotland, 100 MW / 400 MWh Taxiarches BESS in Greece, and the Los Maitenes hybrid project in Chile (131 MWp solar PV with 90 MW / 360 MWh battery storage)—are at varying stages of development, with Greece and Chile under construction and Wallace in advanced development. ContourGlobal currently operates approximately 3 GWh of BESS capacity across Europe and the Americas, including a 202 MW / 500 MWh standalone BESS in Bulgaria and 2.5 GWh across hybrid projects in Chile, with an additional 1.6 GW BESS development portfolio in Italy not covered by this agreement.
