Type: Financing · Technology: Solar · Country: Guatemala · Value: $36M · Announced: 2026-09-02
Cox closed a syndicated senior loan of $36 million on 2026-09-02 to finance construction and commissioning of the PSF Chiquimulilla 75.2 MWp photovoltaic plant in Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa, Guatemala. The financing was structured and led by Corporación Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura (CIFI), which also participates with its own funds alongside the Fondo de Deuda de Infraestructura Sostenible (SIDF) managed by CIFI Asset Management, Banco Internacional de Costa Rica (BICSA) and Banco Aliado. The project will be built in two phases and has 15-year power supply contracts awarded in the PEG-4-2022 auction with Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala (EEGSA) and Distribuidora de Electricidad de Occidente (Deocsa). The Comisión Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (CNEE) authorized access to transmission capacity under Resolution CNEE-278-2025, with the plant to connect to the Sistema Nacional Interconectado (SNI) at the Chiquimulilla substation. CIFI and Cox estimate annual generation of ~167.6 GWh (equivalent to about 200,000 households), and the financing closure follows the PEG-4-2022 procurement which allocated 235 MW to distributors including EEGSA, Deocsa and Deorsa.
