Cox to invest over €20 million in municipal green hydrogen energy communities in Andalusia

Type: Investment · Technology: Hydrogen · Country: Spain · Value: ZAR 20M · Announced: 2026-06-29

Cox announced an investment of more than €20 million to develop municipal green hydrogen energy communities across Andalusia. The initiative will be co‑financed by the Junta de Andalucía, which will provide roughly one‑third of the funding through European grants and zero‑interest loans. Pilot projects are planned in Almería, Cádiz, Huelva and Sevilla, combining photovoltaic plants with hydrogen production facilities on sites under 2,000 m². The hydrogen will serve the agro‑food sector, heavy transport, industrial activities and local municipal consumption, aiming to cut fuel costs by about 5% for logistics and reduce electricity bills by up to 65% for municipalities. This marks Cox's first foray into hydrogen‑linked energy communities, leveraging its expertise in water and energy to expand its renewable portfolio in Spain.
