Cubico Sustainable Investments and CFE sign partnership to develop 578 MW of renewable projects with 500 MWh battery storage
Type: Partnership · Technology: Hybrid · Country: Mexico · Capacity: 578 MW · Value: $1000M · Announced: 2026-07-22
Cubico Sustainable Investments and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad signed a partnership agreement to develop five renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 578 MWac and battery storage of 175.7 MW/500 MWh, committing roughly $1 billion in new infrastructure. The projects will be located in Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Campeche and other sites across the Yucatán Peninsula, comprising photovoltaic solar farms and on‑shore wind parks. The first project, Altamira Solar in Tamaulipas, is slated to begin construction in December 2026 with a 78 MW capacity and an expected annual generation of about 200 GWh. Construction of the remaining four projects is planned to start in the second quarter of 2027, under a 25‑year collaboration framework. The agreement requires CFE to retain at least a 54 % stake while Cubico provides cash equity and assumes development and construction responsibilities, securing long‑term power purchase contracts for up to 70 % of the output. This deal expands Cubico’s Mexican portfolio, which already totals around 600 MW, and positions CFE to meet its renewable targets through mixed‑ownership assets.
