D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments secures PPA with Los Alamos County Utilities and Meta for 170 MW Foxtail Flats Solar project with 80 MW battery storage
Type: Ppa · Technology: Solar, Storage · Country: United States · Capacity: 170 MW · Announced: 2026-07-06
D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) finalized long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the 170 MW Foxtail Flats Solar project, including 80 MW of battery storage, located on tribal lands spanning New Mexico and Colorado. Los Alamos County Utilities committed to purchasing the entire 170 MW solar output and 80 MW of battery storage, replacing 36 MW of power previously supplied by the retired San Juan Generating Station. The remaining generation will supply a new Meta data center under construction near Albuquerque, leveraging the project's large onsite batteries for steady capacity. Construction began in summer 2025, with commercial operations scheduled for fall 2026. The project's strategic location near Farmington, New Mexico, at a major regional transmission crossroads, enables direct interconnection to existing high-voltage infrastructure, avoiding lengthy interconnection delays.
