DEME and Japan Offshore Marine secure EPC and vessel charter contract for Japan’s first 15MW offshore wind turbines installation
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: Japan · Capacity: 15 MW · Value: $58M · Announced: 2026-05-29
DEME, through its Japanese joint venture Japan Offshore Marine (JOM), secured a contract with Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy and Penta-Ocean Construction to provide engineering work and vessel charter services for the installation of 21 Vestas V236-15 MW turbines at the Oga–Katagami–Akita Offshore Wind Project. The deal, valued at up to $58 million, marks the first deployment of 15 MW-class wind turbines in Japan and the first application of such turbines outside Europe excluding China. Installation will be carried out by the jack-up vessel Sea Challenger, expected to sail under the Japanese flag, with offshore activities scheduled for the second half of 2027. Tokyo-based JOM, a joint venture between Penta-Ocean Construction and DEME, combines offshore wind installation expertise with local execution capabilities to support Japan’s offshore wind sector. The contract strengthens DEME’s presence in Japan and supports its strategy of building a locally anchored offshore wind installation capability in the country.
