Type: Financing · Technology: Other · Country: Honduras · Value: $10M · Announced: 2026-09-09

The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) announced a $10 million loan approval to Financiera MiCrédito Honduras, S.A., a majority U.S.-owned financial institution in Honduras, to support on-lending to eligible micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. At least 50% of the loan proceeds will finance the procurement of eligible U.S. goods and services, including agricultural inputs and manufactured goods such as tractors, harvest equipment, irrigation systems, and fertilizers, thereby strengthening U.S. supply chains. The project approval was marked by a signing ceremony in Washington, D.C. between DFC Chief Policy Officer Caroline Vik and MiCrédito Holding Corp Regional CEO Verónica Herrera, witnessed by Honduran Finance Minister Emilio Hernández Hércules, Central Bank President Roberto Lagos, and Trade Representative Melvin Redondo. Earlier in 2026, DFC CEO Ben Black and CPO Vik visited Tegucigalpa to meet with President Nasry Asfura and cabinet officials to discuss U.S.-Honduras engagement opportunities. This facility deepens commercial ties by expanding access to financing for thousands of Honduran businesses purchasing U.S. goods, supporting entrepreneurs while deepening trade ties and creating new opportunities for businesses to connect with U.S. goods and markets.
