EBRD provides €26 million financing to HoSt Group for Lēdurga biomethane plant in Latvia
Type: Financing · Technology: Biomass · Country: Latvia · Capacity: 80 GWh · Announced: 2026-06-05
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided a €26 million loan to HoSt Group for the development and operation of the Lēdurga biomethane production plant in Latvia. The financing includes a first-loss guarantee from the European Union's InvestEU fund, enabling the project to proceed with a total investment value of approximately $28.3 million. The 80 GWh biomethane facility will annually process 137,500 tonnes of farm by-products, including manure and grain residues, producing 7.3 million Nm³ of biomethane and 9,800 tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide. The biomethane will be injected into Latvia's gas grid for domestic use and export, primarily serving heavy-duty vehicles in Germany's transportation sector. HoSt Group, through its subsidiary Next Biogas, will fully manage the plant's engineering, operations, and commercial output under an Energy-as-a-Service model, while returning nutrient-rich digestate to local farmers as fertilizer.
