Econergy secures €229 million financing for Părău 2 solar and battery storage project in Romania

Econergy secured approximately €229 million (USD 247.5 million) in financing for its Părău 2 solar and battery storage project in Brașov County, Romania. The six-lender consortium includes the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, Exim Banca Românească, NLB, OTP Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo România, and its subsidiary Privredna banka Zagreb, with €114.4 million of the facility backed by an EU InvestEU guarantee. The project combines a 342 MWp solar photovoltaic plant with 150 MW of co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS), targeting commercial operations by late 2027 or early 2028. Econergy also secured a 15-year contract for difference (CfD) covering 125 MWac of capacity at €49.4/MWh through Romania’s CfD scheme, providing revenue stability. Construction is already underway, with financial close expected within three months pending customary conditions. Eyal Podhorzer, Econergy’s CEO, highlighted the financing as a milestone for both the company and the Romanian market, enabling further expansion in Europe.
