EdgeMode and Bloom Energy to develop 300 MW data center campus in Spain with 60 MW solar PV and fuel cell backup

Type: Development · Technology: Data Center · Country: Spain · Capacity: 300 MW · Announced: 2026-06-19

EdgeMode, a U.S.-based developer and operator of high-power digital infrastructure, is developing the DC Malpica data center campus in Mora, Toledo, Spain, with a total IT capacity of 300 MW. The project will feature two 150 MW IT buildings powered by a 60 MWp solar PV installation distributed across their rooftops, avoiding additional agricultural land use. Bloom Energy will supply solid oxide fuel cell systems (Bloom Energy Server) as a base-load generation source, designed to operate on biogas to reduce emissions. The campus will operate as an off-grid microgrid with dry cooling systems to eliminate water use for cooling, addressing local water stress challenges in Castilla-La Mancha. The €3 billion investment is pending official approval from the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.
