Eku Energy Japan finalized a land purchase agreement with the Gunma Prefectural Enterprise Bureau to develop the 30 MW / 120 MWh Naganohara battery energy storage system (BESS) near Naganohara Town in Gunma Prefecture. The project, scheduled to commence operations in 2029, represents Eku Energy’s fourth grid-scale BESS initiative in Japan, following previously announced projects in Miyazaki, Okayama, and Fukuoka prefectures. The agreement follows three years of collaboration between Eku Energy and Gunma Prefecture, with the industrial park land prepared by the local government to support critical power infrastructure. Masashi Narita, Director of the Gunma Prefectural Enterprise Bureau, emphasized the project’s role in maximizing renewable energy utilization and ensuring grid stability. Eku Energy Japan’s President and CEO, Kentaro Ono, highlighted the company’s responsibility in operating the facility safely over the long term as part of Japan’s power infrastructure.
