Electrified Thermal Solutions secures financing and commissions first commercial thermal battery system
Type: Financing · Technology: Storage · Country: United States · Capacity: 20 MWh · Announced: 2026-09-01
Electrified Thermal Solutions commissioned its first commercial-scale Joule Hive Thermal Battery (JHTB) system with a capacity of 20 MWh at the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. The E-brick thermal battery combines conventional and advanced refractory bricks to store electricity as heat at up to 1,800°C, releasing hot air on demand for industrial processes. The system operates across electrical systems from 480 V to 100 kV and converts electricity to heat with over 98% efficiency. Electrified Thermal Solutions raised $24.3 million across six funding rounds to support the deployment. The JHTB system leverages low-cost off-peak electricity, including negative-priced solar and wind energy from the Texas grid, to provide industrial heat around the clock.
